Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS SPRAY TANNING?
Spray Tanning is a 15 minute treatment in which a spray tanning solution is sprayed evenly over the body (or specific areas.) The active ingredient in the solution is dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which creates a chemical reaction, causing the skin to be stained temporarily. Spray tanning is a SAFE, SUNLESS alternative to UV rays.
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE I COME FOR MY SPRAY TAN APPOINTMENT?
The key to a perfect spray tan is prepping your skin properly! Exfoliating and moisturising regularly on the run up to your appointment buffs away dead skin cells and softens the skin which ensures a flawless finish. If you do not exfoliate and moisturise prior to your appointment your tan may stick to dry areas resulting in a patchy tan. Make sure you shave or wax at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT please ensure your skin is completely clean of all products (make up, deodorant, moisturiser, oils, etc)
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear loose, dark clothing to your appointment to avoid marks on the skin from tight clothes rubbing. We would also advise you wear flip flops or slippers. If it is raining- cover up as much as possible!
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY SPRAY TAN APPOINTMENT?
Our experienced Tanning Technician will consult with you how dark you would like to be. We will ask a few questions to ensure we are getting it just right for you.
We will then supply you with your own Tanning Kit which consists of; a fresh towel, disposable g string and disposable cap. We will ask you to strip down to your pants – if you’d rather stay more covered up or you’d rather strip off completely we are cool with that- we have seen all shapes and sizes and nothing phases us at all!
We will then apply specially formulated moisturiser on your dry areas (hands, feet, elbows & knees) to ensure the tan isnt absorbed into these areas, we want as natural a finish as possible!
We will apply the solution manually with a HVLP spray tan machine whilst directing you clearly on how to stand.
After your spray tan, we will wipe away tell-tale signs on the hands, nails & toenails then give you the correct aftercare advice to ensure only the most flawless results.
HOW LONG WILL MY APPOINTMENT TAKE?
Your spray tan appointment will take 15 minutes.
HOW LONG WILL MY SPRAY TAN TAKE TO DEVELOP?
You can rinse our regular solutions off in 6-8 hours and our rapid solutions off in 2-4 hours, depending how dark you would like your tan to be.
HOW LONG WILL MY TAN LAST?
Our spray tans will last up to 1 week when the correct aftercare is followed.
CAN I CHOOSE MY OWN SHADE?
Absolutely! We can spray you as light or as dark as you would like to be. We can also add tanning drops (pure DHA) to intensify your tan even more!
HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE?
While there are no legal minimum age restrictions for spray tanning, we like to ask for parental/ guardian permission for anyone under the age of 16.
WILL I LOOK ORANGE?
No. Our spray tan solutions have golden undertones, meaning no matter how dark you like your tan – it will NEVER look orange.
WILL GOING ON HOLIDAY AFFECT MY TAN?
Chlorine (bleach) and salt water (natural exfoliant) can cause your tan to fade faster. It shouldn’t go patchy, it just may not last as long. You must also avoid OILS or OILY products- oils can break down the tan making it look extremely patchy. Remember your spray tan will not block out UVA/UVB rays- regularly apply your (non oily) suncream.
WILL THE SPRAY TAN STAIN MY CLOTHING/ BEDSHEETS?
The colour guide (tan that sits on the skin that you wash off after it has developed) does not stain. However, we would still advise against wearing or sleeping in light or porous fabrics.
SHOULD I GET A SPRAY TAN FOR MY WEDDING?
Absolutely! We are specialists in bridal tanning! We can spray your tan as natural or as dark as you like (just because you’re a bride doesn’t mean one size fits all- we spray you how YOU like!) We would always recommend a trial tan for your wedding or other special occasions. Although we are absolute professionals in what we do, we want to get it right for you every time and everyone has their own personal preferences. This also lets you decide if you prefer your tan the day after or two days after. Will your spray tan transfer onto your dress? It shouldn’t if you have rinsed it off properly! Most brides get sprayed 2 days before the big day to ensure all excess has been completely rinsed off.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Waxing may be slightly uncomfortable, but it is over quickly and is so worth it! We aim to be super fast, yet thorough and try our best to distract you with our best chat!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOT & WARM WAX?
We use HOT WAX for small, facial and intimate areas. It is applied thickly, hardens and is then removed. It is less painful than traditional warm strip wax and can remove hairs as short as 1mm.
We use WARM STRIP WAX for larger areas such as legs, arms, chest, abdomen & back. It is applied thinly and removed with a paper strip, allowing us to remove large areas of hair quickly and effectively.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY HAIRS BE?
For first time clients we would recommend 3 weeks growth minimum for the best results.
I STILL HAVE ‘STUBBLE’ AFTER MY FIRST WAX. WHY IS THIS?
It is very unlikely you will achieve silky smooth, long lasting results following your first ever wax. This is because it takes a few waxes for us to be able to remove all hairs and get them on the same growth cycle. You will always have some shorter hairs/ stubble remaining after your first wax or have been shaving in between. These are hairs which are not long enough to be removed yet and we will catch these ones at your next appointment. Regular waxing is the only way to combat this.
WILL FACIAL WAXING ENCOURAGE HAIR GROWTH?
No, facial waxing will not change the make up of your vellus (facial) hairs. They will grow back in the exact same as they were before. The only thing is, once you have experienced a baby soft result, you may feel you notice them more!
WHY DO I GET INGROWN HAIRS?
Unfortunately some of us are more prone to ingrown hairs than others, due to our hair and skin type. ANY form of hair removal runs the risk of ingrown hairs forming. Exfoliating and moisturising generally does the trick in encouraging these hairs to come to the surface by buffing away dead skin cells. Ingrown serums/ sprays are also an option to keep ingrown hairs at bay.
WHY DO I GET SPOTS AFTER A WAX?
Unfortunately some of us have larger hair follicles and are therefore more prone to get spots. This can be alleviated by trying to avoid touching the area and also trying to avoid exercise or anything that may cause you to sweat for 24-48hrs after your wax.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT BETWEEN WAXING APPOINTMENTS?
Again, everyone’s growth is different. We would recommend between 4-8 weeks between waxing appointments.
CAN I SHAVE/ TRIM BETWEEN WAXING APPOINTMENTS?
If you want to experience the real benefits from waxing then NO. Shaving will disrupt the hair growth cycle which will result in thicker and darker hair at your next appointment. The hair also may be too short to remove at your next wax appointment if you shave/ trim in between.
CAN I LEAVE MY PANTS ON FOR MY BIKINI WAX?
We provide disposable underwear for basic and extended bikini waxes. For anything more than that we require you to take your pants off! This is so we can see the areas we are waxing and enables us to be super fast. We are professionals and have seen all shapes and sizes, there is absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about!
CAN I APPLY TAN AFTER MY WAX?
After a warm wax treatment, it is important you wait 24 hours until you apply tan. This is because a very fine layer of the skin is removed and pores are fully exposed meaning the tan will probably not take to the skin properly and go into the pores, resulting in brown spotty skin.
After a hot wax treatment you can apply tan immediately. This is because we use an oil to prevent the removal of skin, this wax shrink wraps round the hair and removes the hair ONLY. Just ensure you have removed residue oil as this can cause your tan to go patchy.
WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER & DARKER?
No. Infact quite the opposite. Waxing terminal (darker, body) hairs removes the hair from the follicle, resulting in a weaker, finer hair which is easier to remove the next time.
CAN MEDICATION AFFECT MY WAX?
Yes. Please let us know prior to your appointment if and what medication you are on. There are some medications which are so strong you can absolutely not get waxed on, and some we might need to take special care.
HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE?
While there are no legal minimum age restrictions for waxing, we like to ask for parental/ guardian permission for anyone under the age of 16.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY WAX?
We recommend that for 24-48 hours you avoid touching the area, moisturiser, heat treatments (sauna, steam room, sunbeds etc), exercising and wear loose clothing.
CAN I GET WAXED WHILE PREGNANT?
Yes! Waxing is perfectly safe when pregnant.
CAN I GET WAXED DURING MY PERIOD?
Of course! All we would ask is that you use the intimate wipes provided beforehand and ensure you are wearing a fresh, clean tampon. You may be more sensitive than usual and can experience slightly more discomfort during your period.
WHAT IS BROW LAMINATION?
Brow Lamination will help give you a uniform, full eyebrow shape. This look is achieved by using a perming solution to straighten and realign the brows in such a way to create a fluffy, fuller look.
The premium products we use contain a new protein composition based on liquid keratin and silicone it will also ENCOURAGE HAIR GROWTH by creating a protective film around the hair.
Our Brow Lamination treatment also includes a brow tint, wax and trim.
DO I NEED A PATCH TEST?
If you haven’t had a brow lamination treatment in our salon in the last 6 months we will require you to come in for a patch test at least 24hrs prior to your treatment.
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT LAST?
The treatment will last 45 minutes.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
Results can last up to 8 weeks. The products used will gradually neutralise over time.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY TREATMENT?
Don’t expose your brows to water or steam/ moisture for 24hrs.
WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive, painless facial treatment in which we remove dead skin cells, dirt, oil and vellus hair from the surface of the skin with a sterile, surgical blade revealing your beautiful, glowing skin underneath. We use Dermalogica Ultracalming products during this treatment to counteract any redness or sensitivity which can sometimes be caused by the treatment.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DERMAPLANING?
The removal of dead skin cells, dirt, oil and vellus hairs will allow topical creams to be penetrated deeper into the skin, faster, meaning faster results. Fine lines and wrinkles will appear reduced. Skin will feel silky smooth to the touch and will appear glowing.
WHAT WILL MY TREATMENT INCLUDE?
We will start by double cleansing the skin with Dermalogica products appropriate for your skin type. We will then use an alcohol wipe to sterilise the skin before carrying out the Dermaplaning treatment. This will feel like a light scraping over the skin, it is not painful or uncomfortable- infact most clients find it very relaxing. We will then apply a calming Dermalogica face mask, then apply Ultracalming facial toner, moisturiser and SPF to protect your newly resurfaced skin.
WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER MY DERMAPLANING TREATMENT?
- It is completely normal to feel a little sensitive or tingly for 24 hours after your treatment, like you’ve sat in the sun too long! This is completely normal and will fade over time.
- After your treatment, take care not to touch the skin for 24 hours. Do not apply make-up or skincare products for 24hrs.
- Avoid sun exposure/ sunbeds for 7 days- ensure you are wearing an SPF daily, especially during this time.
- Cleanse your face with water and a gentle cleanser for the next 7 days, your skin may be more sensitive to your normal skincare products.
- Avoid exfoliating the skin for 7 days. Avoid products containing alphahydroxy or betahydroxy acids, Retin A, or retinol for at least 72 hours.
- Avoid facial waxing for 7 days.
WILL BE HAIR GROW BACK IN DARKER AND THICKER?
No, Dermaplaning can not impact on the physical make up of your vellus hairs. They will grow back the exact same as they were before. All we would say is you may notice them more, after you have experienced the amazing results of Dermaplaning. Hairs tend to grow back in around two-four weeks.
